When he was younger Issac Delgado was more interested in sports than in music, but when he was 18 he joined the group “Proyecto” that played old-style Cuban music in a modernised style. His interest for the music was born and he started studying vocal technique and applied to a school for professional musicians.

After having participated as an amateur in various groups during two years he started his professional carreer in 1983 as a member of “Orquesta de Pacho Alonso”, whith which he toured for the first time and recorded an album in Spain. He toured internationally with the group and recorded three albums. They received awards by EGREM (the biggest Cuban record company) during 1990 and -91 for highest musical technological level and for highest popularity.

In April 1991 he decided to start his own band “Issac Delgado y su Grupo” for which he very carefully picked his musicians and song material. The arrangements were written by among others Pablo Milanés, Pedro Luis Ferrer and Giraldo Piloto.

During the following years he recorded a number of albums for which he also rendered several awards by EGREM. He was signed by an American record company, which gave him bigger international success and he participated in festivals and charity galas. During 1994 he organised the Benny Moré festival, a Cuban festival for popular music. During 1997 he filmed the documentary “Yo soy del Son a la Salsa” that was given a lot of attention both nationally and internationally. In the beginning of the 21st century he continued touring the world and recording several albums. He was nominated for a Latin Grammy three times for best tropical music and best song.
