Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco - Control

Manolito Simonet was the band leader and pianist in the group Maravilla de Florida before forming el Trabuco in 1993. The group has a unique composition that, in addition to the usual trumpets and trombones, contains violin, cello and flute. The singer that has been with the group since the start, Sixto “El Indio” Llorente, quit in December 2007. He was replaced by “El Noro” who is a former singer in Maykel Blanco y su Salsa Mayor, and besides him “Amaray” and “Miami” sing with the group.

Curiosity: The word “trabuco” was used in Cuba as a name of a type of weapon used by pirates and has since then been used to describe something strong, for example a baseball team or a team of doctors. When the band was formed people thought that it was “un trabuco” and hence so it was called.

Manolito y su Trabuco have toured a lot internatonally and won awards for several of their albums. The latest productions are the recording of a live concert with Lázaro Valdés and Bamboleo as the disc Knock out and the album Control that was released in 2008.

The informationen was found on the band’s myspace page (Spanish) and in an interview with Manolito Simonet. You can also read more about the group at www.timba.com (English).
